Sierra Llorona

The Concept

Sierra Llorona, "the crying mountain" or "weeping mountain" is a green paradise for nature enthusiasts. The family owned and operated lodge is located in a private tropical reserve of 200 hectares (494 acres). It is a vivid representation of Central America's tropical rain forest with abundant woody vines, orchids, mosses and bromeliads.

The lodge's grounds offer beautiful panoramic views including part of the northern entrance of the Panama Canal, the City of Colon, Galeta Point, Bahia Las Minas and the Caribbean Sea. A series of walking paths and observation ground platforms surround the Lodge, prime locations to observe birds at the canopy of the forest. Researching Neotropical flora and fauna at Sierra Llorona continues to be of particular interest to scientists, leading to the recent discovery of a new species of amphibian, endemic to the area.

You can wait for the hummingbirds to come to the feeders or you can also enjoy doing night trekking, owling, or just lay back, relax and enjoy the panoramic views and admire the abundant green tones of nature .

The Accommodations

Sierra Llorona offers you complete private overnight accommodations in a series of 8 guest rooms with hot water, ceiling fans and cross ventilation. Every room has a balcony where you can lounge in your hammock and admire the rain forest.

The main lodge buiding houses a spacious suite with double bathroom, walk in closet and a lovely Jacuzzi with view to the forest. Guests have leased this suite on a long term basis.

The Lodge has conference and meeting areas for small groups, music and a Rancho-Bar. There are table games, darts, internet and laundry service available for your use. Home style Panamanian cuisine is served buffet style in the Lodge dining room.

A self-catering camping site is nestled along Nance's Trail. Here a covered, open sided "Rancho" provides shelter for a rustic stove, loft and 4 posts to hang hammocks. There is a tent site and an outhouse. The Lodge provides wood for a camp-fire and kerosine lanterns.
